Life drawing

These are all 5s, 10s, or 20s. I need more practice. Messed around with colored pastels too just for the heck of it. :)

Stuff for class

I made this using chun lu's maya tutorial. Toooootaly not my stuff regarding the model. I liked the lighting though so I figured I'd share it. (c) 2009 Digipen.

Zbrush

Still figuring it out. Gotta figure out how to make it awesome, and how to export the normals. Getting normals in mudbox is pretty easy, but zbrush seems to want me to jump through some hoops.

Some more recent stuff

20 minnute doodle of a kitty. I like the colors, I was experimenting with limmited use of line.

The handsome half-orc I'm currently painting is a battle butler named Sebastian. He's one of my favourite DnD characeters ever besides Kate.

Some life drawing. These were all 5 minute drawings from late July.

Cafe drawings- some I was trying to characterize and some were much more observed.

Page 'o doodles. Notice the dreamworks faces on the characters in the lower left :)

Mildred's low poly model is done, and now I'm unwraping her for the high poly sculpt.

Also I'm pissed about track one no longer being an option for Junior Projects. I'm scrapping my whole storyboard and making a new one. I still want to use Mildred for whatever the new story is.

Makin progress

You guys remember this lady? Well I've been modeling her in Maya.

I'm about 10 hours into this and it's nearing completion. I still have to model her hair/hat, and I've been spending the last hour or so making the edge loops on her face look good. I also need to re-topologize her boobs because, well, they look funny near the top. I think I can re-do it so they go around rather than having an e-pole where they meet her chest.

The storyboards are in progress, but I'm sending them into jimbo before posting them here.

Also, I have to scan in some more life drawings/doodles later this week. Hopefully over the weekend. :>

Teaching

I haven't posted anything in a month or so since I've been working at UW teaching Maya and the UT3 editor for the past four weeks, through Internal Drive summer camps. It's the most enjoyable, fun, rewarding and well paying job I've ever had. Maya is a pretty slick software package and I'm glad I've been learning it, since I'm considering using it for my Junior Animation project. I think I've learned more by teaching it and solving issues than I ever would have learned just by taking a Maya class.

Anyhow, if you want to check out some of my student's work, check out http://projects.internaldrive.com/. I teach at UW, and I only teach it every other week- so you'll only see projects up there from week 2 and week 4. :)

This was made by one of my students. He didn't have prior modeling experience, but he did have a great fondness for rubik's cubes. He dissasembeled it and measured it out, modeling it from observation. All I really had to do was show where the modeling tools were, how to make materials shiny, which buttons to press during rendering and where to place his lights. He did everything else. I was so proud of him.

I'll probably post more of my own stuff soon- since I'll be making all new art for my game project (as all the old stuff just got thrown out the window due to a gameteam explosion) and because I have a backlog of stuff I need to post. Scanner, here I come!

Life drawing- May

Some life drawing I've neglected to upload till now. This is mostly stuff from May and maybe some stuff from June? I don't remember which is from which session!

Paintings 'n doodles

Some paintings and doodles from my trip to Yellowstone. I need to paint from observation more often, but this was definitely good practice. The first one is watercolor and the last two are gouache.

DOODLE TIME

Grumdor is my DnD character. She's a half-orc cleric of hextor who somehow ended up being very fashionable.

Also a for funsies doodle of my lovely face. TOTALLY ACCURATE.

Low poly stuff

I'm modeling a bunch of environment assets for the level editor my programmers are making. They want stuff like broken pillars, rocks, and various bits of coral. Here's a low poly statue I made for them. They aren't sure what their graphics engine can handle yet, so I'll be making higher poly versions of this too. The next iteration I'm shooting for is at around 2,000 polys. This statue is 436.

Drawin

I wish I could post more of my life drawing but my camera battery died and I can't find the charger. More stuff later once I can actually figure out how to upload it.

For now, here's something I drew today at the long pose session at DP. It's a two hour fifteen minute drawing since we started late and did some gesture work before hand. I wish I had more time to make it look more finished!

Updated stuff

The administration wanted more men in the picture, so I changed it. Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been busy with learning various softwares (like unreal and the warcraft editor) so I can teach this summer. I've also got a few models in progress that I'll hopefully be able to post soon!

Orientation

Poster that hopefully the administration will like.

Expect more within the next couple of days :)

Practice stuff!

This is just some practice work I've done recently. Not portfolio worthy at all.

I went to figure drawing for the first time in like... two months yesterday. I am so rusty! Thankfully I have all summer to go to figure drawing; I'm going to go every week I possibly can so I can get better. The above drawing is a 35 minute pose and it has a lot of issues.

The cannon was for a contest on game-artist.net. It's a 90 minute speed texture. The contest involved a unwrapped model that we had to texture in 90 minutes, and then screncap viewport image. Rendering was not allowed. For some reason, the viewport shader made everything shiny. I can assure you my spec map didn't look anything like that, and when I rendered it out on a blinn it looks much better. I didn't end up entering the contest with it since I didn't want to enter something this n00bish- but it was a good experience nonetheless.

More character design work and animation

A couple of character design assignments and my sophomore cg final.

Also, you guys totally have to try max 2010. It's SO AWESOME. YEAH!

Keep watching this blog for regular figure drawing updates. :)
