Some WIP's

Some stuff for character design, some stuff for my upcoming game. I'm trying to get better at painting... I need more practice. Lots and lots of practice. I've been painting for a little more than a year now (first time in my tone/color/composition class) and I think I have improved since then- but I still have a long way to go. I'm very much a line thinker and not so much a value thinker, so I gotta work on painting and value. On Lure I need to fix her hair so it looks like hair and not blobs, and render her so her face doesn't look like a giant 5'oclock shadow. She also needs *real* shoulders and her eyes need work. I also need to fix the line art errors on Betsy before painting but that shouldn't take long. Thoughts, crits, or whatever else welcome.

Lighting fun time

Just messing around with custom shaders- I'm trying to get more of a cartoony render, sort of like tf2's lighting setup. Any thoughts? Also here's a first pass texture- I still need to work on the fur a ton.

The shader I used is Xoliul's, found on the game-artist forums. It has a bunch of features I haven't even messed with yet.

Spring break animation

The game I'm working on next year, "Lure of the Abyss" takes place underwater- so I did some quick concept animations of stuff swimming. One of the biped animations I did as a diver swims - just kicking their feet- it feels stiff and kinda gross, I don't like the motion. The second attempt turned out better I think, more fluidity in the motion. I made the biped swim more like a dolphin than a diver.

The last one is a for fun jellyfish biped. It was really hard to get the right motion but I enjoyed doing it none the less.

I want to be an animator, so any feedback you guys have is much appreciated.

BFA and Masters CS

Drew two more today- they need a lot of love, especially BFA guy. Really not digging him right now. Any suggestions? I'm trying to get these done as fast as I possibly can, so I only put in like 3-4 hours each on these things. D:

Current stuff for Kati

So my boss, Kati asked us to draw stuff for the new student orientation to market the 'pen to the incoming freshers. I decided to draw characters for each program... Here's what I got so far. They're really really WIP, and all I have to show is RTIS and CE. I have sketches for the others but they're nowhere near any stage of finished. I decided to stray away from my usual way of drawing stuff to push the cartoonyness. I had a lot of fun with 'em. Let's hope I can finish these and get the BFA/MS/BAGD/BSGD done before the end of break.

Oh and btw- feel free to crit the hell out of these since they're still quite wip and suck a lot. I should add some straps for the engineer's goggles and maybe give her something to hold in that hand of hers... any other suggestions?

JEBBUHDAIUH

He's so manly! Modeling him in 3D has been a blast. Maybe I'll post some renders later of my WIP. So far he's been modeled, rigged, and has a base texture. I'm working on his first pass animation now- let's hope it turns out well, since animation is what I want to do once I get out of school.

This is my first post!

So, to kick things off, I figured I'd show you all how I drew about a year before going to art school. Yes, I sucked really bad, and I still suck pretty bad now- but the improvements I've made are remarkable. Just wait and see, if I can come as far as I have in two years, I'll be really good by the time I get out of school!

Or at least, I hope I will.
